Many software packages exist which can be used for analysing animal movement and remote sensing as well as for the statistical analysis and spatial modelling. However within AniMove activities we decided to focus exclusively on scientific OpenSource software packages. The functionality of these packages are all comparable to proprietary ones and partly even more advanced, esp. concerning statistics in R.
- the R programming language is a very powerful for statistics and modelling, as well as analysing environment data
- please also see the R cheat sheets: general AniMove R reference card and spatial AniMove R reference card with common R commands for animal movement and spatial data analysis in R
relevant R packages are:
other software packages might be used as well, such as QGIS an intuitive GIS software with an increasing amount of functionality or other like GRASS which is one of the largest OpenSource GIS and Remote Sensing analysis packages. Other software packages might be used in case it suits the aim of the course (e.g. MRT)
